A jury representing the Helsinki Tourism Foundation selected four winners of the Helsinki Travel Awards from among candidates recommended by local residents and representatives of the tourism sector. The winners of the 2020 Helsinki Travel Awards were as follows: the Ateneum Art Museum; Kämp Galleria, a hub for Finnish design, and its property owner, Ilmarinen; Summer in Senate Square, an urban oasis in the historical centre of Helsinki; and WalkHelsinki, a provider of guided tours and memorable experiences.

Through the annual Helsinki Travel Awards, the Helsinki Tourism Foundation recognises local operators for their long-term work for the development of Helsinki. In 2020, the jury also paid attention to innovations and new solutions.

The winners have succeeded in finding new ways to enliven the city and bring people and companies together. Tourism professionals in Helsinki are doing an excellent job and preparing for the future as best they can. Everyone is looking forward to a time when people from near and far will again be able to come and enjoy the best city in the world”, says Mikko Leisti, Chair of the Helsinki Tourism Foundation.

Kämp Galleria has gradually developed from a traditional shopping centre into an impressive hub for Finnish fashion and design, and it also houses an exhibition facility of the Finnish Museum of Photography. Its continuously evolving and renewing selections, first-rate curation and unforgettable fashion experiences are reasons why Kämp Galleria is worth visiting, even from a longer distance.

These are challenging times for the city centre of Helsinki because people are working remotely, which means empty streets and facilities. The city centre should be seen as a major hub for shopping and services that is continuously evolving in response to demand. We have taken on this challenge – and quite successfully so, it seems”, says Ville Laurila, Lettings Manager at Ilmarinen.
