The Sello shopping centre is attracting new tenants despite the exceptional circumstances. Juhlamaailma, a store selling banquet supplies, will open in February, along with the first Finnish store of the Danish Normal chain.

Last year, Sello welcomed 13 new stores and restaurants, including H&M Home, Jysk, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Naughty Brgr and XS Lelut, for example. Three new stores will open in February–March 2021: Normal, a Danish chain selling household goods, personal care products and a selection of groceries; Juhlamaailma, a store selling banquet supplies; and Fotoyks, a camera and photography store.

“Normal currently has 250 stores in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and France. We will enter Finland with four stores, the first of which will be opened in Sello, a shopping centre with an excellent location. We offer our customers a wide selection of products for their daily lives, as well as unique experiences based on our special concept”, says Torben Mouritsen, CEO of Normal.

“Our family business is opening its seventh store, which will be located on the second floor of Sello. Colourful balloons and decorations, as well as beautiful table settings and funny costumes, create the perfect atmosphere for special occasions, even though there are limitations on gatherings. They also ensure memorable experiences and fun photos. We help people rise above the daily routine on their special days”, says Jonna Nieminen, Business Manager at Juhlamaailma.

Fewer visitors but larger purchases during an exceptional year

The year 2020 was challenging for many sectors, and the recommendations and restrictions related to the exceptional times were also reflected in Sello: its number of visitors decreased by around 25% from 2019 to 18.6 million visits by customers. Sales decreased by 13% from 2019, totalling EUR 341 million. However, the average purchase at Sello increased by more than 10% in 2020.

“People visit the shopping centre less frequently than before, but they buy more during their visit. We would like to thank our customers and tenants for ensuring health security on their part, and we welcome our new tenants to Sello. We will have a celebration once the pandemic situation allows for us to get together”, says Managing Director Marjo Kankaanranta.

Information about recommendations related to health security is provided at the entrances and via the media channels at Sello. Enhanced cleaning and ventilation measures also continue. As recognition for its measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, SAFE Shopping Centers granted COVID-19 certification to Sello in October 2020, with an “Excellent” rating.
